The Deal by Elle Kennedy - Book Review

The Deal by Elle Kennedy is a young adult book based on the lives of college students. When I first read this book, I was a junior in college and I immediately fell in love with Garrett and Hannah's love story. I have read this book at least a handful times and it gets better every time.

Kennedy writes as if she were a college student and explains students daily lives and just how quickly a stranger in class can become a trusted friend and partner. She captures the timeline of a college semester in a way that no other book I've read has done. She sticks to the realistic timeline of midterms, finals, and the overwhelming extra curriculars college students endure.

There's more than what meets the eye to Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham. While the two don't seem compatible on paper, their chemistry and friendship explodes from the beginning and continues throughout the Off Campus Series. Kennedy weaves Hannah and Garrett's past traumas into a beautiful storyline that leaves the reader with a clear understanding of how both characters feel and she does an excellent job of making each character understand how the other deals with the trauma. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves rooting for the underdog couple and who loves hockey as Garrett is a star player on the Briar Men's Hockey team. As a disclaimer, there is sexual assault present within the story so reader discretion is advised. You can buy The Deal on Elle Kennedy's website or Amazon.
