Week 5 was interesting as we had our first Tuesday night NFL game since December 10, 2010. The Tennessee Titans played their first game in more than two weeks vs the Buffalo Bills and they looked pretty sharp. Ryan Tannehill threw four touchdowns while the defense held an explosive Bills offense to just 16 points. Sure, Josh Allen did not play his best game. In fact, it was probably one of his worst performances since his rookie year in 2018. However, let's not take away from Titans. For not facing an opponent in 16 days, they looked like they haven't missed a beat.
In Washington D.C. a remarkable comeback happened. Quarterback Alex Smith returned to the field after 693 days. Incase you haven't heard about Smith's season-ending injury two years ago, he broke his right tibia and fibula and endured a serious infection. Smith came in for Kyle Allen after Allen suffered an injury in the second quarter. Smith went completed 9 of 17 pass attempts for 37 yards. Not bad for a guy who hasn't played in two years. Smith will be the backup QB moving forward unless Allen isn't healthy enough to play.
The biggest but probably not surprising news of the week was the New York Jets releasing starting running back Le'Veon Bell. This move came after Bell liked several tweets on Twitter about how the Jets should trade him and how head coach Adam Gase has had issues with the running back since day one. The Jets paid Bell $28 million for 17 games and only rushed for 863 yards and three touchdowns. As former offensive linemen Ramon Foster said, "The grass is not always greener, my friend".
